He meets her gaze without malice, although his look is stern and uncompromising. So far, she doesn't seem intent on antagonizing him, always a plus in the favor of any prisoner. He does his best to ignore the continued tug of something about her that makes him want to trust.

He snorts very softly, the sound a little dryly amused. "Two years ago, that would have put you in a very uncomfortable position right about now." He makes note of the water pitcher and cup as well as the plate in her cell. "I know you've little reason to believe you won't be drugged or poisoned. I hope you'll take my word on it and keep yourself nourished and hydrated while in our custody." How long that will be depends on things outside of his control.

"If you have any other pressing needs, tell the guard. We'll do what we can to provide within reason."
